East Carroll Parish Big Buck Banquet

2010 - 2011

The 5th annual East Carroll Parish Big Buck Contest had the biggest year ever. There was 135 deer scored for the contest and the biggest year for the biggest bucks ever.  The top three biggest bucks scored 183, (Paul Minsky), 174 1/8 (Josh Frith), 164 3/8 (Keven Green). Over 30 youth hunters entered the contest this year.

 

We would like to thank each and every sponsor that gave this year.  It would not be possible to have the contest with out you. Joe Ross and Junior Isaac got out there and picked up more sponsors than we have ever had. 

 

On February 3rd we held our annual buck contest banquet at the Lake Providence Community Center.  Each year out grows the previous one and this time was no exception.  Despite the winter weather threat that night, over 400 people showed up to make it our largest crowd ever.  Sheriff Mark Shumate had the idea of holding the finale at the community center this year to have more room for the growing crowd and lots of work went into making it happen in a short period of time. There was live music by the Close Enough Band and Sheriff Mark Shumate provided the wonderful meal for everyone.

 

First, Second, and Third place prizes were given out to all categories and lots of nice door prizes were given away also. Charles Jenkins of Tensas Taxidermy has always given a free deer mount to the biggest buck entered every year, and this year Don Green of Rut -N- Strut Taxidermy comes on board and is giving a free mount to the biggest buck entered in the Women's category.

 

We would like to thank Pat Robertson of the Lake Providence community center, Hosie Layton and crew, and Donnie Meadows for being the MC.  We would like to thank Nathan Dye for scoring most all the deer, David Frith for passing out tickets at the door for all these years, but most of all we would like to thank the hunters and the people of the community who love the sport of hunting.  This has become the largest event for East Carroll Parish each year and we are grateful to all who make it successful.
